Improving AI-Driven Sports Insights from Inception to Production

The Client

Our client offers sports enthusiasts, teams, and scouts a specialized AI chatbot designed to provide specific and factual sports information. For example, fans can use the service to obtain game recaps, schedules, statistics, etc., while sports teams and scouts can facilitate their roster building by asking for player comparisons, performance trends, and more. The chatbot fulfills user requests based on relevant background information, such as its own databases, live searches, or user-submitted documents.

The Goal

The client’s deep expertise in sports, machine learning, data engineering, and rapid development enabled them to create a robust MVP on relatively short notice. Then, they approached Janea Systems to leverage our technical acumen and accelerate project delivery. We joined forces to bring the system from MVP to full production.

The Challenge

Initially, the platform needed optimizing for speed and cost, as latency issues, oversized context windows, inefficient query handling, and other challenges drove up compute and slowed down responsiveness. Moving forward, we added domain-specific features and helped ensure a smooth project launch.

Janea Systems partnered closely with the client's Product, Engineering, and Research teams to enhance the intelligence, performance, and scalability of their AI stack. Solutions deployed include:

  • Expanded the LLM stack with the LangGraph framework to handle complex queries, preventing infinite loops and improving overall performance.
  • Enabled on-premises autonomous AI deployment for sensitive information processing, allowing AI agents to chain together multiple actions while maintaining data security.
  • Introduced load shedding and connection pooling to eliminate database throughput bottlenecks and handle traffic spikes gracefully.
  • Built a RAG pipeline with LangChain, LangGraph, DSPy, AWS Bedrock, and Datadog to encode frequent query results into a specialized vector database - a system that enables semantic search of previously answered questions.
  • Established Langfuse alongside Datadog; enabled telemetry for on-premises agents; developed customer usage understanding pipeline, facilitating error detection and analysis.
  • Created infrastructure templates for faster and more consistent provisioning.
  • Migrated and scaled ML inference and training from on-premises to the cloud, unlocking greater computational resources.
  • Benchmarked storage solutions to enable training on datasets exceeding 1 billion records.
